Position Summary
The Supplier Development Engineer plays a crucial role in enhancing supplier performance across key metrics such as quality, cost, and on-time delivery. This position involves evaluating and qualifying suppliers, implementing quality control processes, and analyzing performance data to drive continuous improvement. The role requires close collaboration with manufacturing, quality, and customer care teams to address supplier commitments, maintain recovery roadmaps, and ensure proactive communication with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct on-site, virtual, and desktop audits of suppliers.
Develop, implement, and maintain quality control processes, procedures, and policies for both new and existing suppliers.
Monitor high-risk supplier development issues to prevent operational disruptions.
Lead Supplier Quarterly Business Review processes with third-party and subsidiary suppliers.
Manage deviation requests and engineering change requests from the supply base.
Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities.
Analyze and resolve root causes of supplier-related issues, including quality, cost, and performance metrics such as on-time delivery, lead time, and capacity.
Apply Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) to ensure purchased materials meet quality standards.
Develop and execute plans for supplier development and quality improvement initiatives.
Provide technical training and guidance to suppliers on quality and performance improvement initiatives.
Support the annual supplier performance review process and contribute to policy updates.
Establish priorities to achieve objectives and maintain robust mitigation action plans.
Lead supplier performance reviews and maintain strategic communication with internal teams and suppliers.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field.
Experience:
5+ years of Supplier Quality Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
Proven expertise in supplier quality management and quality control processes.
Comprehensive knowledge of various manufacturing processes, including assembly, machining, stamping/metal forming, injection molding, and packaging (preferred).
Experience auditing internationally recognized quality systems such as AS9100, TS16949, or ISO 9001.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency with Quality Tools & Methods (e.g., APQP, FMEA, SPC, MSA, PPAP).
Experience using formal problem-solving techniques (e.g., 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Why).
